We can be a Blessing to Society

PFS’s collaboration with 好人好事 Hao Ren Hao Shi (HRHS), a non-profit organisation, has enabled PFS beneficiaries – desistors and their families – who have been blessed to, in turn, be a blessing to society by helping to pack and distribute essential supplies.

It was a rainy Saturday morning on 5th November 2022 but that did not deter volunteers from PFS and 好人好事 Hao Ren Hao Shi (HRHS) from assembling as early as 8 a.m. at 1 Dorset Road. Their mission? To sort, pack and distribute food and household necessities for our beneficiaries.

This collaboration between PFS and HRHS, a non-profit organisation, stemmed from a natural synergy of corporate missions. HRHS’s mission to improve the lives of the underprivileged and needy families through the provision of essential supplies with the help of the wider community provided PFS with the opportunity for our beneficiaries – desistors and their families – to participate and in turn be a blessing to others in society.

The volunteers from both organisations comprised families with young children as well as some who were more advanced in years. Regardless of age, everyone eagerly awaited the arrival of the supply truck bearing close to 30 different items.

HRHS reps organized the area into stations in preparation for the goods to be received, sorted and packed. When the truck arrived, everyone swung into action, helping to unload and lay out the items at their designated stations. After a quick confirmation that the stock was in order, packing commenced.

Volunteers holding large plastic bags streamed past the different stations in single-file. Those assigned to each station ensured that the correct quantity of each item is dropped into every passing bag. To expedite the process, two ‘assembly lines’ operated simultaneously. One line for red-coloured bags; the other for blue. Items were assigned based on the colour of the bag. Remarkably, each line filled 80 bags in about 20 minutes and all 160 bags were then loaded into 15 waiting cars.

This meaningful activity, which happens on the first Saturday of every month, wrapped up as the cars drove off to deliver the items to the 80 families, each to receive 1 red and 1 blue bag filled with items lovingly donated and packed for them.

Thank you for the groceries. My income is limited as I can only work part time due to carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. Delivery to my door step also means I do not have to carry the heavy items.
— Mdm R (57, works part time)

With 4 kids and 2 jobs, I have limited time and income. Therefore, receiving staples like bread, eggs, in addition to dried rations and canned food are very helpful. Really thankful for the groceries and appreciate the effort.
— Mdm J (37, mother of 4 children aged 6 to 17)
