Caring for our family of volunteers

Oct 21, 2019

In mid-September, our PFS Family Care team organised a volunteers’ fellowship to thank our steadfast volunteers who have been serving the children of inmates and ex-offenders; by ferrying the children to and fro our Care Club venues weekly, helping them with homework and organising games and activities for them.

Three special guests joined the team at this fellowship – including Kenneth and Adeline Thong who run The Last Resort, a four-storied terrace house that shelters young people who have nowhere to go, often as an escape from abusive families or a crisis at home. The Thongs’ home, which they have opened to strangers since 2007, helps young people who fall through the social service gap — they are too old to be placed in government-aided shelters, and do not have the financial means to rent their own room from the open market.

Also sharing her testimony at the fellowship was Madam Leong.

She’s best known for her delectable “Ban Mian” (handmade noodle soup), but Madam Leong, at one point, had sunk into depression and wanted to end her life because of a broken marriage. She was about to jump out of a window when she was stopped by her young daughter. Madam Leong, now restored in Christ, runs a popular noodle stall at Amoy Street and is able to share her journey of overcoming the odds.

We are thankful for everyone’s time, and trust that the sharing helped to re-affirm our faith in a God who is more than able to provide for our needs.
